Rooms cleaned. Floors swept. Student work posted. Email sign up sheets laid out. Smiles ready
It's Open House night!
And I even wore a skirt and blouse.
Amazing.
We had a huge crowd, which is strange because it began pouring rain around 5:00 pm when the doors opened. Usually, if it rains no one comes out. We even had a health fair in the gym with vendors of health-related services set up at tables giving out free blood pressure tests, visitor passes to local gyms, and more.
I saw a lot of parents, which is nice. I saw a lot of former students which I enjoy as well, including a few that are seniors now which freaks me out. When did we get older? One is already being scouted by the Yankees and the Diamond Backs and I hope he makes it to the Show. That would be beyond cool. Another invited me to the first band concert over at the high school and marveled at my silver hair. I was blonde a few years ago when I had them.
Again, when did we start getting old?
Thank goodness I have them around to make me feel young...

Our back to school night is in a couple weeks. I'm glad that yours went so well!
Ours was well attended as well, but my son's was not.
Sadly, the parents I *need* to talk to--are the ones who didn't show up. A whole class of them.
As I told my parents at Back-to-School Night last year: When I first started teaching, I was younger than the parents. Then, for a while, I was the same age. Now, I'm older than they are, for the most part. Where did the time go? If you have some time tomorrow, drop on by my place. We're playing the Silly Sunday Sweepstakes, and Sharing All That Caption Love!
Thursday was my birthday and my co-teacher planned a surprise party with the fourth graders that came to class that day. The kids made cards and I thought you might enjoy the last two lines of Luke's birthday poem:
"...being 60 it is said
it much better than being dead."
Out of the mouth of babes.... N.
Glad it went well for you. Like you, I enjoy seeing parents and former students as it helps to build relationships.
I love seeing my former students. When they were introducing new staff this year, I was sitting next to a colleague who in her 30th year. She was a bit shocked to realize she had taught English to over half the new staff. Talk about a legacy!
I'm glad open house went well considering you weren't feeling the love earlier in the week. Those parent/teacher relationships can't be beat when trying to whip a student into shape. :)
